The PSSD: A Handy Diagnostic Tool
Do you want to know if your patients have significant sensory loss due to diabetes, thyroid disorders, compressive neuropathies, thoracic outlet, lupus, heavy metal exposure or rheumatoid arthritis? Look no further than the Pressure Specified Sensory Device (PSSD). This sensitive device can detect sensory touch to one tenth of a gram. It can tell you if your diabetic patient’s feet are at risk. It can tell you if your patients nerve loss is severe enough to require a surgical consult or if therapy would be more beneficial. Check it out for yourself on tristatehand.com. You can also have a free demonstration by calling us at 301-729-4499 to set up a visit from me personally if you are interested in seeing the device in action. We also have CD’s available that show a demonstration of the device. Sensation can be measured in the hands, feet or any other part of the body. We can also track nerve return. In addition, in Picture C you will see the electronic grip strength measuring device which can detect strength loss. It has two measuring poles; one for the first two fingers and one for the last two fingers. In Picture D see the pinch strength measuring device. This can be used with any finger. Both of these strength measuring devices automatically measure coeffience of variance to determine if maximum effort was applied. This can be useful if patients/workers are trying to get secondary gain. If you wish to order a test for your patient just write a prescription for Neuro Muscular Junction Testing. The test is covered by most major insurances. Best of all, it is painless so retesting is not a problem.
